Travel diary of Manipur

Two years ago. I went Manipur with my cousin. I went Manipur for my IIT-JEE Mains. I know many of you must be thinking that why someone who’s living in Delhi will go for an Exam in Manipur. So, first of all, I should tell you that there were some technical problems.you have to fill two forms for Mains exam, My first form was accepted but the second was not there in their database. It was a rare situation. And in the end, I was left with two options. First to apply for the exam next year and the second is to fill NorthEast forms which open after these forms. My family agreed to the second option.I left for Imphal.
Imphal is the capital city of state Manipur. We landed at the airport in the morning.I noticed that there were very few people at the airport. When we went for the search of an auto rickshaw.I realized that the fare rates of an auto in Imphal are more expensive than that we have in Delhi.

We reached our hotel and checked in for next two days.I realized that I was not the only one who’s here for the Mains exam, There were students from across India.

In Imphal, You will notice that there are many restaurants which offer pork and beef on their menu. While in northern areas where pork and beef are mainly banned but in North East, pork and beef are one of the main dishes

I have heard that North East is not a safe place and it turned out it is true. There are many Naxalites in North East. When it gets dark in Imphal or if you are alone on the street you can notice that.Imphal is a military influenced place. You can always see serviceman and military tanks around.

On the day of my exam at the Kendriya Vidyalaya school.I was around Manipur teens. They were all speaking in Manipuri and they were really confused to see me that why I am here. But I must confess that I haven’t seen girls more beautiful than that I have seen in Imphal. Guys and girls in Manipur are giving real competition in style to all the Delhites.

On my visit to Kangla Fort. I met an old Manipuri guy who explained to me that why there are so many conflicts in Manipur. He said that the tribal groups such as Nagas, Meities and other tribal groups always disagree with each other.Meities which is the tribal group of Manipur wants Manipur as a separate country. He told me that Nagas which are from hills causes major problems here.

Do you know you can visit Myanmar from Imphal in just ten rupees without a passport and visa? The old man at the Kangla Fort told me about this. But there is a condition that you have to come back to India before dark. I decided to not take a chance.

The KV school of Imphal is in the village area of Imphal. When I was on my way to the school. I noticed the villages of Imphal are so different as we have in the north. They look similar to Chinese villages that we see in movies like Drunken master or any other Jackie Chan movie.

On my last day in Manipur, I visited Loktak lake. It is the largest freshwater lake in whole NorthEast. It is the most beautiful place in the Manipur.Peace and serenity are in the essence of Loktok lake.

Northeast India is the unexplored land. There were places that I haven’t seen before.Imphal is a place where you can see a different culture and lifestyle.I met many beautiful people, People who taught me many things about the culture, customs and politics of Manipur.North East India is the part of India and people living there are as much Indian as we are. I was totally amazed to see this part of India.
